Test Organisation Platform
A successful test organisation focuses its activities not only on tackling the project currently at hand. It also has to take into account that the IT system involved will be modified and further developed for many years to come.
With the test organisation in SQS-TEST®/Professional Test Organisation Platform (TOP) specialised system views are documented for the test. Using this specialised view of development, the test manager designs the concept for the whole test series. Thus, with the aid of SQS-TEST®/Professional TOP, a test suite of IT ap-plications is built up over the course of the projects.
Test projects with SQS-TEST®/Professional
TOP
A great many questions present themselves at the beginning
of a test project. Which functionality is being developed
for the first time? Which already exists and is affected by
the relevant changes? What are the risks and critical significance
associated with the various parts of the system? Which tests
from past projects are already available for the functionality
involved?
The Test Organisation Platform enables you to document the
tests are to be repeated and which new tests are to be designed
and conducted. TOP supports test project initiation. With
the aid of TOP you can capture and manage test levels, test
tasks and later on test cases and test script.
In addition, the specialised view is shown on the system to
be tested. Connections from the test side to the system side
create transparency as to what is being tested where.
The system view of the software
test
SQS-TEST®/Professional TOP distinguishes explicitly between
project and system views of the software test. The system
view of the software test on an IT system consists mainly
of a hierarchical, functional breakdown of the IT system.
The focus is on specialised aspects. Thus, for example, the
relationships be-tween the uses of different functions can
be documented. This is useful if you wish to document the
special-ised functions that are used in a business process.
Likewise, test cases can be defined for functions, and it
is also possible to document which functions can be tested
indirectly when tests of other functions are run. This kind
of information is especially valuable if, for example, not
every single individual item of functionality can be explicitly
tested due to budget constraints.
The system view of the software test on an IT system is in itself a relevant result of work on the test project and, like the source code in software development, is continually enhanced over the course of the project. The system view provides an ideal basis for the re-exploitation of test cases, test scripts and other results of software testing.
Project execution and tracking
Which test cases, test scripts, etc. of the IT systems should
be repeated, or must be repeated for new release? Which tests
were executed on the current project and what were the results?
Which test methods and procedures, differentiated for the
different parts of the IT system, should be employed on the
current project? Which tasks are assigned to which tester?
In the project views of SQS-TEST®/Professional, the organisation,
test levels and test jobs are documented, as well as the test
methods and procedures to be used for the jobs. Numerous evaluations
are also available: for which functions were no test cases
defined, no test cases ordered, no test cases executed? What
are the work and execution statuses of the test cases?
The supplied standard status models can be modified to match
your specific requirements.
Activities that have been assigned to members of staff can
be tracked along with many other factors that are relevant
for successful test management.
Features
- Comprehensive reporting functionality for the generation of user-specific reports
- Reports on degree of test coverage
- XML-based, standard import interfaces
- In addition, the repository of SQS-TEST®/Professional can be exported in HTML format - for example, for checking purposes.
- Thus the status of the test at any given time can be frozen and archived. This can be displayed using an Internet browser.
Interfaces
Data in a wide range of formats can be connected to SQS-TEST®/Professional
TOP via various interfaces.
- The COM interface enables export of your data eg. to Word® and Excel®, in order to generate re-ports and evaluations.
- The XML interface provides a standardised data transfer format.
- On request, flexible integration interfaces for the connection of CASE tools, test tools (such as Test-Director®) or tools for business process modelling (e.g. ARIS). These interfaces allow repeatable import and support dialogue-based comparison with previous information. They are available as additional components for SQS-TEST®/Professional.
